{"id":107,"date":"2014-10-10T20:15:41","date_gmt":"2014-10-10T20:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/justinwiegand.com\/blog\/?p=107"},"modified":"2014-11-18T18:38:20","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T18:38:20","slug":"equations-for-the-latex-holdouts-i-e-using-microsoft-equation-editor-efficiently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justinwiegand.com\/blog\/?p=107","title":{"rendered":"Equations for the Latex holdouts (i.e. using Microsoft Equation Editor Efficiently)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u00a0still want to use MS Word for equations (instead of <a href=\"http:\/\/latex-project.org\/ftp.html\" target=\"_blank\">LaTeX<\/a>), but at least want to decrease the hassle (i.e. scroll, point, click, scroll, point, click, etc. etc.). \u00a0Here&#8217;s my contribution:<\/p>\n<p><strong>First<\/strong>,\u00a0some quick keyboard tips from <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-US\/Article\/Create-superscript-or-subscript-text-or-numbers-using-keyboard-shortcuts-17963258-49cd-4100-96d9-f16b495e288e?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To make text appear slightly above (superscript) or below (subscript) your regular text, use these keyboard shortcuts:<\/li>\n<li>For superscript, select the text or number that you want, and then press Ctrl, Shift, and the Plus sign (+) at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>For subscript, select the text or number that you want, and then press Ctrl and the Equal sign (=) at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>Note, you can reverse your decision and turn superscript or subscript off by selecting your text and then pressing Ctrl and the Spacebar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The tips\u00a0takes care of subscripts and superscripts, but\u00a0what about having to scroll through the symbol frame and find every odd symbol and Greek letter out there?<\/p>\n<p><strong>There is a better way:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Setup MS Word for typing math equations inline with other text.\n<ul>\n<li>In MS Word 2013 click &#8220;Options&#8221;\u00a0\u2192 &#8220;Proofing&#8221;\u00a0\u2192 &#8220;AutoCorrect Options&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0\u2192 &#8220;Math AutoCorrect&#8221;\u00a0\u2192 Select &#8220;Use Math AutoCorrect rules outside of math regions&#8221;
